Specialist High Skills Major

The Agricultural -Business, Specialist High Skills Major program is a source of great pride at Chesley District High School and throughout the Bluewater District.  Over the past two years a great deal of work has taken place in order to offer courses to support Agriculture and its related businesses within our rural setting.  Horticulture classes had been offered at CDHS for a number of years; however, Animal Science courses have only been offered since 2005.  When the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training announced the implementation of Specialist High Skills Majors as part of the “Learning to Eighteen” initiatives, CDHS was ready to embrace this exciting new opportunity.

Update: April 9, 2009
Recently, a team of representatives from Bluewater travelled to the University of Guelph to sign an official articulation agreement with the University.  That means that Bluewater students who are graduates of the SHSM in Agriculture will be exempt from introductory agricultural courses.  In their place, our students may opt to enrol in second year courses instead.
